× Secret Music Skirmishes of the Cold War: The Shostakovich Case
Wednesday, May 23 | 7:30pm

In the frosty days of the Cold War, the intelligence agencies of the USSR and USA fought proxy wars across, with unwitting individuals often swept into the fray.

The Russian musical legend Dmitri Shostakovich spent his life composing groundbreaking music, often facing criticism, and even death threats, by the Soviet government.

At the height of the Cold War he too was forced into the center of the CIA and KGB war of propaganda as he was offered an invitation to the United States. With John F. Kennedy and Joseph Stalin in a perilous standoff, Shostakovich became an unwilling pawn in the struggle between the Communist and Capitalist world.

Join us as former CIA historian Nicholas Dujmovic shares incredible stories of the secret music skirmishes of the Cold War, alongside the powerful music of Dmitri Shostakovich, played by PostClassical Ensemble and pianist Benjamin Pasternack.
