The Rosary Sonatas: A Mother's Lament
Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29, 2020 | 7:00 pm
Go underground, sojourning through the Cathedral's crypt chapels, for an unforgettable evening as we reflect upon the emotional experience of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as she followed her son into Jerusalem for the triumph and tragedy of Holy Week.
Experience profound contemplation with the Rosary Sonatas of Franz Biber, passionate music inspired by the 15 Mysteries in the lives of Jesus and His mother Mary.
Continuing the powerful experience of the sacred, four of the Tenebrae Responsories by Carlo Gesualdo will also be performed. Completed just two years before his death as he remained tortured by the guilt of his wife's murder by his own hand, Gesualdo's Tenebrae Responsories are among the most experimental and expressive music ever written.
And just when you think your heart can't take any more, lose yourself to the haunting, mystical poetry of Rainer Marie Rilke.
To ensure a highly intimate experience, this event is capped at 100 attendees per night.
This performance is held in the lower level of the Cathedral. The program includes stairs and walking in low light conditions.
